๐Ÿฅฉ This classic beef and broccoli stir-fry delivers tender, juicy beef paired with crisp-tender broccoli in a rich, savory sauce that’s better than takeout
๐Ÿฅข Ready in just 30 minutes, this one-pan meal is perfect for busy weeknights when you want a satisfying homemade dinner without the fuss

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

– 1 pound (about 450 grams) flank steak [thinly sliced into bite-sized strips]

– 2 tablespoons vegetable or neutral oil [divided]

– 1 pound (about 450 grams) fresh broccoli [cut into approximately 6 cups of florets]

– 2 teaspoons sesame seeds [optional garnish]

– 1 teaspoon fresh ginger [grated]

– 2 teaspoons garlic [grated (about 3 cloves)]

– 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot water

– 6 tablespoons soy sauce or gluten-free tamari

– 3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar

– 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

– 2 tablespoons sesame oil

Instructions

1-First, begin by cooking white rice so it finishes around the same time as your stir-fry. Then, freeze the steak for 30 minutes to make slicing easier against the grain. Mix all the sauce ingredients until the sugar dissolves and set it aside for later.

2-Next, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat and sautรฉ the broccoli partially covered for 4 to 5 minutes until it’s crisp-tender. If you want softer broccoli, add 2 tablespoons of water during this step. Remove the broccoli from the pan and turn the heat up to high with the remaining oil.

3-After that, cook the beef strips in a single layer for about 2 minutes per side until they’re done. Reduce the heat to medium-low, add the stir-fry sauce, and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until it thickens. Finally, return the broccoli to the pan, stir everything together, and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water if needed to adjust the sauciness. Serve it over white rice for a complete meal.

Notes

๐Ÿ”ช Slice the beef against the grain while partially frozen for the most tender results
๐Ÿฅฆ Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking broccoli – cook in batches if needed for even browning
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Keep the sauce at a gentle simmer when thickening to prevent the cornstarch from breaking down
