🎂 This easy-to-make frosting holds its shape well, making it ideal for piping intricate designs and elevating your dessert presentation.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: About 2.5 cups

Ingredients

– 1 cup (16 tablespoons; 226g) unsalted butter

– 3 and 1/2 cups (420g) confectioners’ sugar

– 1/2 cup (41g) unsweetened natural cocoa powder

– 3 tablespoons (45ml) heavy cream or milk, at room temperature

– 1/8 teaspoon salt

– 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

1-Beat the unsalted butter on medium speed until creamy, about 2 minutes, using a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle or whisk attachment.

2-Add the confectioners’ sugar, unsweetened natural cocoa powder, heavy cream or milk, salt, and pure vanilla extract. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase to high speed and beat for 1 full minute.

3-Adjust consistency: If the frosting is too thin, add 1/4 cup more confectioners’ sugar or cocoa powder. If too thick, add another tablespoon of cream or milk. Taste and add a pinch more salt if desired.

4-Use immediately or cover tightly. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 3 months. After thawing, beat the frosting on medium speed for a few seconds to restore creaminess; add a splash of cream or milk if needed to thin.

Notes

🍰 The frosting is creamy, silky, smooth, rich, and holds shape well for intricate piping.
🔥 If frosting lightens due to air, microwave about 1 cup for 10 seconds to darken and smooth before mixing back.
❄️ Use frosting right away when piping or chill if it becomes too warm or greasy from handling.
