2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, corn syrup, or pancake syrup

6 to 8 slices French bread, cut into 3/4-inch cubes (slices approximately 1 inch thick)

4 large eggs

1 cup half-and-half

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

1-First, gather your ingredients and prepare the caramel by melting 6 tablespoons of butter with 3/4 cup of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of syrup in a pan over low heat.

2-Spread the caramel mixture evenly in the bottom of your greased baking pan.

3-Layer the 6 to 8 slices of cubed French bread over the caramel for an even base.

4-Whisk the custard: combine 4 large eggs, 1 cup of half-and-half, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a bowl.
