🍯 Salted Caramel Buttercream Frosting brings a rich and creamy flavor that enhances any dessert with its perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness.
πŸŽ‚ This velvety frosting is easy to make and versatile, offering a luxurious finish to cakes, cupcakes, and more.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: Enough to frost 12 cupcakes or one 2-layer 8-inch cake

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup cubed butter

1/4 cup milk

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon sea salt (or 1/8 teaspoon table salt)

Instructions

1-First, gather your ingredients: 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup cubed butter, 1/4 cup milk, 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon sea salt. Start by combining the brown sugar, butter, and milk in a medium saucepan over low heat. Stir gently until the butter melts and everything blends smoothly.

2-Keep stirring for at least one minute to ensure it’s well mixed. Then, turn the heat to medium and cook without stirring for 3 to 6 minutes until the mixture hits 230Β°F (110Β°C) or turns a nice amber color. This step is key for that deep caramel flavor, so watch it closely.

3-Once it’s ready, remove the pan from the heat and pour the mixture into a heat-resistant bowl. Let it cool to room temperature before moving on. This cooling process helps avoid any lumps later, making your frosting smooth and easy to work with.

4-Next, transfer the cooled mixture to a mixing bowl and add the powdered sugar and salt. Mix until it’s all smooth, and if it gets too thick, add milk one teaspoon at a time. This salted caramel frosting comes out creamy and ready to spread on your favorite baked goods.

Notes

🌑 Use a candy thermometer for precise temperature to get the perfect caramel color and consistency.
🧊 Cool the caramel mixture thoroughly before adding powdered sugar to avoid grainy frosting.
❄️ Refrigerate frosted desserts but bring them to room temperature before serving for the best flavor and texture.
