Ingredients
– 1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
– 2 eggs, beaten
– salt and pepper to taste
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup cornstarch
– oil for frying
– 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
– 1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic
– 1/4 cup honey
– 1/4 cup soy sauce (reduced sodium if possible)
– 2 tablespoons ketchup
– 3 tablespoons brown sugar
– 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
– 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
– 2 teaspoons cornstarch
– 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
– 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
Instructions
1-Combine the beaten eggs, salt, and pepper in a bowl to create a simple coating base.
2-Mix 1/2 cup all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup cornstarch in a separate shallow bowl for the crispy outer layer.
3-Dip the chicken pieces in the egg mixture, then coat them thoroughly with the flour mixture. Do this for all the pieces to ensure even crispiness.
4-Heat 3 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for frying.
5-Fry 7-8 pieces of chicken at a time for about 5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
6-While the chicken fries, combine 1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil, and 2 teaspoons cornstarch in a bowl to make the sauce.
7-Heat 1 teaspoon vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat and sautΓ© 1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic for 30 seconds to add aroma.
8-Add the sauce mixture to the pan and simmer for 3-4 minutes until it thickens nicely.
9-Toss the fried chicken in the thickened sauce, then sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sesame seeds and 2 tablespoons sliced green onions. Serve it right away for the best taste.
